In the last of four articles, CoreLegal founder member Ray Fox (from the Bottom Line Consultancy) provides more insights into his specialist work as acting as a broker selling Law Firms.

The difficulty is that law firms differ from one another in the same way that cars or houses differ from one another.  Is a Smart Car worth the same as a Mercedes 450SL just because they both have 2 doors and a wheel in each corner?  Is a three bedroom house in Brixton worth the same as a three bedroom house in Brighton?

FINDING A LEGAL BOOKKEEPER

It can be a hard decision – how do I choose a legal bookkeeper? Questions to consider include:

  • What experience they should have? Can it just be an accounts clerk?
  • Or should it be someone with an accountancy qualification?
  • Or someone who claims to have legal bookkeeping experience?
  • Will I be OK with a friend or a family member?
  • Can bookkeeping be outsourced or should the bookkeeper be full time in house?
  • What sort of accounts packages experience do they need?

These are things that need to be taking into consideration when finding a legal bookkeeper.
