There are too many solicitors (and nearly 11,000 law firms) chasing too little work up against aggressive new competition from High Street brand names with huge marketing budgets seeking to do to the legal service market what they did to the financial services sector.

The larger law firms in the personal injury market are also starting to flex their muscles through strategic collaborations and a commitment to online marketing. CoreLegal founder member Jon Hepburn from The Fedora Consultancy takes a look at the situation for the high street law firm.

The recently implemented changes to the provision of access to justice for the personal injury sector will, it is anticipated, reduce claims by at least 60%.

How the new rules are interpreted and who chooses to play by them and how they are enforced will be of great interest to any law firm with an interest in staying in this, very visible, part of the legal services sector. Especially those High Street law firms that are not part of a collective marketing panel/arrangement or who have a substantial SEO and Google Adwords budget.

The Government is now implementing a significant reduction in accident claim litigation fees awarded to personal injury solicitors.  These changes which, if adopted will result in a predicted 60% drop in income for many law firms involved in personal injury matters. Few will have sympathy for lawyers, but the consequences of this change could be far reaching.
